Happy Birthday to my beautiful girl! FingerFood's Theme Buffet - For Scarlett

Hello everyone! Today's post comes with a "Beware - sappy, proud mummy" warning. My beautiful Scarlett is 8 today!

All the lovely ladies who take part in the Theme Buffet have been posting manis for Scarlett all week and she has been beyond excited to look through them all and read all the posts. To get fully involved Scarlett chose the pattern and polishes for the nails I painted and then asked if she could also paint mine, so this is a blog post with two authors - one 30-something, the other 8 (proudly displaying her own watermark!) :)

Starting with mine (age before beauty and all that!). Scarlett adores all my glitters from L-A Glitter Nails so she picked out five (yes five!) of her favourites and asked for a wavy, stripy creation, so I freehanded sections of Apple, Peacock, Sapphire, Grape and Eggplant which I then separated with fine lines of black acrylic paint (black polish would've looked too "lumpy" over the glitter) and finished with two coats of Seche Vite for a smooth and shiny finish.

Next up is the birthday girl (in her own words):

Hello everyone! I am Scarlett, I am going to tell step by step how I did my mum's
nails the other day.

First I painted a bright yellow Models Own (called lemon meringue), then I waited for it to dry.
Next I painted some thick dots in barryM purple (called blackberry).
Next I did the same thing in green, but with a thinner dotter.
Last of all I surprisingly found out that I wanted to get the thin dotter and use another barryM but this time it was a pink one called grapefuit.

That is the end of my talk and thank you everyone for my fabulous birthday nails I love them all lots and lots! Now I will hand you back over to my mum.

I hope you like Scarlett's birthday nails from both of us! The buffet theme for next week is Galaxies, which is another one of my favourites. In the meantime, I just have to get through this weekend and an overly ambitious party theme (because hiring a choreographer and taking advantage of the fact that your husband is a music video director and shooting a pop video with a bunch of 8 year olds seems like a really good idea at first!). She is also insisting that I recreate my glitter bomb on my own nails for her party just to add to the totally unstressful few days that I have ahead! :D

The Digit-al Dozen does Decades Day 2 - 1960s Emilio Pucci

Hello everyone! The second day of our trip through the decades with the Digit-al Dozen and I'm bringing you a little bit of the 1960s! As most of you will know I love my fluid, abstract designs along with bright (and occasionally strange) colour combinations, so it goes without saying that Emilio Pucci and his prints are a constant source of inspiration for me!

I started with a white base and freehanded sections of Color Club Pucci-licious (how could I not use that one?!), Revlon Sassy and Barry M Gelly Dragon Fruit and Lychee, before carefully outlining each section with Color Club Rebel Spirit and finished with a coat of Seche Vite.

There's a Taschen book which is full of Pucci prints - some of the covers are shown in the photo below in case you're not familiar with his style. I'm off to trawl the internet for more of his bags for my collection and will be back with another DD mani for you tomorrow. Don't forget to check out the other ladies work via the links below! :)

FingerFood's Theme Buffet - Oriental

Hello everyone! HAving sat out last week, I'm back for the Oriental week of the Theme Buffet. This was suggested by Dawn from SassyLittleNails. I was really excited by this theme and was determined to step out of my Cherry Blossom comfort zone, so instead I bring you some Ming vase inspired nail art :)

Starting with a base of LA Colors French White, I painted on the outlines of the flowers, buds, leaves and other detail using Revlon Royal. I diluted it with a little acetone to get the "wash" effect. I filled in the flowers etc with OPI I Can Teal You Like Me from the Sheer Tints range and then, once dry, I added in the royal blue criss cross patterns with an ultra fine Sharpie. I gave the Sharpie a long time to fully dry before top coating with Seche Vite.

I must admit that I am in love with how these turned out! And using the Sharpie for the detail made life sooooo much easier!

Our theme for next week is something a little different. My daughter Scarlett is going to be 8 on the 15th May so our theme is "For Scarlett". She is already the biggest nail art fan girl so having a theme named after her is the highlight of her year so far! Whether its birthday related, inspired by something she likes (or that little girls like in general), or even just a scarlet mani, she is going to be beyond excited and I am so happy that the ladies in our challenge group are willing to get involved. Thanks gals! :)

The NCC presents "Music/Movies/TV" - The Mystery Machine

Hello everyone! Today I have my last NCC Mani for April and I'm quite relieved! I think there was just so much choice for this theme that my brain couldn't cope with it! I was looking at options for another upcoming theme week when I stumbled across this idea and decided that it would fit well for my final mani. Who doesn't love Scooby Doo??? :)

I started with a base of Barry M Gelly Key Lime, and then added in the lower turquoise section with Barry M Gelly Guava. I separated the green and blue with a fine(ish) line of Ciate Vintage and then allowed it to dry before painting in the orange flowers with Revlon Siren and outlining them with a little more Vintage. I finished with Seche Vite.

This was a little bit of a last minute throw together mani (when I realized that there was only one day of April left to post this!), but I think its worked out ok in the end :)

Next month I am far more excited about our theme, which is "Skittles"! The troublesome nerve in my neck is playing up again, but luckily I've got the jump on this one, so hopefully I won't be posting on the last day of the month next time! Hopefully... ;)

A Pointy Radiant Orchid Dotticure (and my first #NAILLINKUP mani :)

Hello everyone! Today I have a mani that I did quite some time ago, but that I completely forgot to post! That was until I saw the May/June issue of Nail It! magazine as they featured it in their dotticure section!
It also coincides with me discovering a new nail art link up put together by Craftynail, Brijit's Digits and Eeeek! Nail Polish! and this week's theme is dotticure. Its a fairly non-committal link up where there are set weekly themes - you can dip in and out when you like and the Inlinkz remain open all month. You can find the themes, challenge graphics and Inlinkz here :D

I started with three coats of LA Colors Lilac Frost and then dotted on a French tip shape using Orly Pink Waterfall, Revlon Sassy and LA Colors Wisteria on four nails and fully dotted the accent nail, before finishing with Seche Vite.

This is such a simple design, but I think its pretty cool. A springy test for colour blindness on stiletto tips with a radiant orchid colour scheme - what's not to love? :)

GOT Polish Challenge - Green!

Hello everyone! Today I am back on board the GOT polish challenge - everything got a bit hectic last week and I missed it, but I'm back for green! I love greens and have now decided that I don't have nearly enough. I got out all the greens I own that are more than one year old and once again tried to decide between them. Then realized, again, that I couldn't so used them all! Again...

I started with a base of French White and then added sections of each green, starting with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Teeny Greeny Bikini, then Revlon Sassy and Sinful Colors Exotic Green. I finished by adding Color Club Fly With Me between each colour and a top coat of Seche Vite.

Looking at the pictures I realize that I've created something similar to the rainbow mani I did last month, but this one is a green rainbow (maybe I should've saved it for St Patrick's Day!). I'm in love with most of these greens and even though they probably shouldn't all ever be seen together, I think it works!

Next week our theme is Valentines, so many manis to come up with for this theme - hmmmm... :)

Follow the links below to check out all of today's other fabulous green manis!

6th Feb - Green

Open 30 January - 13th February!

A reminder of the rules :

* the polish you use should be at least one year old

* if you haven't been a polishaholic that long, you can use the oldest polishes you have

* the polish should be previously used, but if you're stuck, you could free a yearling from Mount Untried (seriously, some of mine are reaching puberty out there)

* you can use more than 1 polish as long as it fits the theme and the rules

NCC "Inspired by a Tutorial" month #3 - Green and Purple Abstract

Hello everyone! Today I have my third January mani for the Nail Challenge Collaborative and our theme this month is "Inspired by a Tutorial". Today I have picked a tutorial by Raquel Pimentel from her YouTube channel LOVE4NAILS

She paints a lot of abstracts using great colour combinations and I have been a fan of hers for a long time. A favourite of mine has always been this green and purple abstract design, so I decided to try my hand at that! I used all nail polish instead of acrylic paint, but other than that I followed all the instructions.

I started with two coats of Sinful Colors Glass Pink, and then added a wide French using LA Colors French White, then used Color Club Fly With Me and Revlon Impulsive to add the abstract pattern following the tutorial, and topped with Seche Vite.

I love Raquel's YouTube channel! She has such a huge variety of designs and styles. Her tutorials are concise and clear and I also adore her accent!

I have one more tutorial-inspired mani for you this month and I'm finding it hard to pick the last one! There may have to be a few more scattered over the blog so I can get round to doing all my favourites! Check out the other NCC manis in the links below and I will be back with you soon! Happy Sunday :)

NAILS Mag 31DC Day 19 - Rainbow

Hello everyone! Well yesterday got totally out of hand with the fabulous nail art community shareathon and I didn't have a chance to post this mani. I was originally going to make this my Theme Buffet Weather mani too, but I had settled on trying out some lightning so saved this one for another post!

I started these nails by painting a small section or strip of yellow (each a different size, shape and position) using OPI Yellowpalooza on to each nail. I then added each colour working outwards. Orange (Revlon Siren), Red (Barry M Gelly Paints Blood Orange), Purple (Color Club Pucci-licious), Blue (Models Own Feeling Blue) and Green (Revlon Sassy). I freehanded it all with a very fine striping brush (using thicker, opaque polishes helped with tidying up the lines at the end!). I finished with a coat of Seche Vite.

I love this bright cheery mani and I think as the shapes and lines are different on each nail it has a bit of a retro feel! Perfect for celebrating all my lovely new followers! I first did this design back in November 2012 and I'm glad to say that it looks a lot better today! Click here to see the original post.

Tomorrow I will be bringing you the third Tri Polish mani for January, more bright red, orange and yellow! In the meantime, thank you to all of you that shared my pages over the weekend! I shared as many as possible and am looking into setting up some share time each week :)

NAILS Magazine 31DC - Day 13 and 15 combined (Drip and Latest nail purchase)

Hello everyone! I hope your weekend is off to a good start! Today I have doubled up two of the NAILS magazine 31DC prompts. Day 13 called for a drip manicure while day 15 was to use your latest nail purchase. You'll remember that at the beginning of the week I reviewed a Belle Glamour polish called Chocolate Kiss, well it reminded me so much of melted chocolate that I wanted to use it for the drip manicure and it also happened to be my latest nail polish purchase!

I painted my nails with two coats of Chocolate Kiss and left it to dry. I then painted a drip outline using Revlon Impulsive and filled in the rest of the space to the free edge, and topped that with LA Colors Morning Glory for the rich, subtly glittery finish. I tidied up the drip edges with a little extra Chocolate Kiss and finished with a coat of Seche Vite.

This mani has made me crave some chocolate but the only chocolate in the house belongs to Scarlett and she would be able to tell if even so much as a square had gone, so I'm going to have to go without. Instead, I'm hoping now that you all will want chocolate too and share my pain :p However, I also hope that you all have chocolate available to you should the need arise :)

NAILS Magazine 31DC Day 17 - Green

Hello everyone! Today I have Day 17 of the NAILS Magazine 31 Day Challenge for you and the theme for today is Green! I love green, but I struggled a little with a decision on a design as I wanted to use only greens (apart from a little coincidental black and white)!

I sat staring at colours for a while and then started scribbling down a few ideas before starting to paint. I started with a French White base which I topped with Ciate Angel WIngs for a pearly shimmer. I then added sections of Revlon Zealous and Sassy, and Sinful Colors Exotic Green using a striping brush. I carefully added in some black outlines with LA Colors Black Velvet and dotted along some of the black lines to finish the design. I allowed it to dry for 5 minutes to avoid any colour dragging before adding a coat of Seche Vite.

I'm glad I took a little time deciding on this design as I love it - and my nails are also ready for the weekend :)

I'm blogging all of my NAILS Mag 31DC manis slowly but surely as I have so many other posts to fit in, but if you'd like to see them all so far, they're on Instagram and you an check them out there.
