February Nail Art Challenge Day 2 - Half Moon Nails

Day 2 of Erica's Nails and More February Nail Art Challenge and the theme is Half moon nails! I tried loads of different ways of doing half moons as I'm not really a fan of the look and was trying really hard to find a way of putting a spin on it. Last time around I made the half moons out of little rhinestone crystals and I was happy with them but was lacking a little inspiration this time...

Sooooooo, what does Sammy do when she lacks inspiration - LEOPARD PRINT!!! If in doubt, I cover it in leopard print. Works for me - clothes, nails, whatever... (plus its my birthday so I wanted leopard print!)

So, I used a base of Sally Hansen Whirlwind White, and added half moons and leopard print in Barry M Gelly Paints Pomegranate (which I never use!) and Color Club Rebel Spirit, with a top coat of Seche Vite.

You may have noticed that the little handwritten sign I hold for the pic is written in pencil and doesn't show up well - there is a method in my madness!!! I played with a lot of different colours and tried with felt tip, standard ballpoint and marker (I've put way too much thought into this), because I noticed that the camera perceived the nails differently if the writing on the card was darker - the contrast was off even using the macro setting to focus in on the nails. Using and HB pencil (albeit a Disney Princess one borrowed from Scarlett) meant that the camera focused on the important bit :)

I loved looking at all the other Galaxy entries - so exciting to see so many people taking part. Really enjoying being part of it :) See you next time for Glitter Loaded nails...

    1. Thanks! You really can't beat leopard print! I've just ordered lots of gel polish so I can start offering longer-lasting nail art. My first experiment is obviously going to be leopard print!!! :D

    1. Thanks! It is a gorgeous colour - I've had it for ages but its the first time I've used it apart from swatching. Maybe I should get it out more often... :)

  7. I love this! I love the spin you put on the half moons :D I want to try freehand leopard print, just have to talk myself into it, lol!
    Happy belated birthday!
Also, thanks for the tip on the hand-written sign in HB pencil. I have been having problems with my camera not focusing on my nails cause it's too busy focusing on my sign, and it's really frustrating! I'm going to go home and make a sign with pencil ;)

    1. Thanks Erica! Freehand leopard print is a doddle, you'll be awesome at it! I was so happy when I figured out the pencil thing for the sign too - I was getting so angry when the camera would pick up on the ink so strongly and ignore the fabulous nails!!! ;)
